Greetings from Chinook Pass
I have been to the river several times in the past.used to bring my girls and we camped on the river..think I will have to make this year's show! I partied with little feat in anchorage alaska at the captain cook hotel after they played an outdoor event in the late 70's...lowell was there in his white overalls..paul was there...I met some friends of lowell's who went high school with him so they were invited to head into anchortown after the show..and I got to go along.we were quite a site at the front desk of one of the nicest hotels in town...after 3 days of partying in the great outdoors....the concert was awesome despite rain and mud. I got to go for free cuz I was the lifeguard in case any one decided to swim in the lake..ummm alaska lakes are cold...even in the summer and it was raining...me and my dog tequila had no work and a whole lotta fun!
see you at the show
peace

Hi,
Here is a link to a VR interactive Panorama that I took at last years street dance. Feel free to link to it if you want. Also I intend to be at the festival this summer as well, I will let you know if I take more Panoramas. Enjoy this one. We have a small piece of property in Twisp and love the Methow Valley especially since events like this come here every year. Keep up the great work.

I've been attending this event more on than off over the past 20 years...and I'm definitely looking forward to this year's fest. Absolutely one of the best Blues fest venues in the great state of WA. From the awesome WMA event support staff, who somehow someway make it better and better every year, to the always anticipated "Blues Performer" line up the WMA attracts year after year, and of course the beautiful Methow Valley and the blues Farm in Winthrop as the place! A huge thanks to Erika and ALL the WMA staff who (continue to) dedicate their passion and time to make the WBF possible for all of us fans who so love the Blues... 03Feb09 - Lobo

Wow. The line up looks great! Can't wait to hear it all - it's always wonderful! 28Jan09 - Susan - Seattle, WA

Visiting the WBF website just made all the winter "blues" melt away. I can't wait for July. This will be my 7th trip to Winthrop and this festival is always the highlight of my summer. The 2009 lineup looks outstanding...as usual. Last year's lineup was everything a blues fan could ask for and Curtis Salgado's set ranks as one of my all time favorites. That man is just magic. And for him and his band to stand in at the last minute was truly incredible. Thanks for putting on a great event year after year...no easy feat I'm sure.

Another Great Festival Planned! Would NOT miss this festival! I think it will be our 6th. Terrific music, great vibe, the campers!, how the whole town participates, lolling about in the cooling river while sounds waft over you so you are always connected - Well, it's a sensory delight on so many levels. Thank you to all the people who worked so hard to build this festival over the years and much appreciation for the Winthrop Music Association for continuing to build and grow this important regional event.

The best of these festivals and events acoomplish the goal of having everyone involved - fans, musicians-sponsors-vendors-the community feel enriched from the experience. Winthrop Rhythm & Blues Festival gets an A+ in all categories!

Winthrop 2009 Promises to be Quite a Party!
I just looked at the acts confirmed for Winthrop 2009 - they include Polly O'Keary & the Rhythm Method, the Randy Oxford Band with Patti Allen, Inland Empire Band of the Year Big Mumbo, and Too Slim and the Taildraggers. The national acts passing through include Magic Slim and the Teardrops, Mavis Staples with Rick "Homes" Holmstrom, and Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band - not all slots are filled, but this early confirmed line-up is a great one. I am usually on the road for my day job (www.casey.org) this week in July, but since it's my birthday on the 18th, I'm going to do my best to get back to Winthrop. The street dance, the food vendors, and the people, make this trek to this small Western town well worth the effot.

This festival is probably my favorite summer event. Looking forward to it again this year. I am grateful to all of you who put so much passion and effort into it. THANK YOU! Commenting was quite easy. See you there!

NW Pianorama
When Northwest Pianorama hit the stage at Winthrop I was, frankly, a little nervous. Throw together an unrehearsed group of 'allstars' on a big stage and the results can be anything from brilliant, in the best cases, to a horrific trainwreck when even minor things go wrong. The Pianorama set a couple of weeks earlier, at the Waterfront Blues Festival with a slightly different configuration, had been well received, but to me felt tentative and ragged. On the east side of the mountains I was hopeful, though not entirely convinced, that we wouldn't go down in flames... But the conditions don't get any better than they were for us at Winthrop: great stage and crew, first class sound, fabulous hospitality, the festival's stunning backdrop of  the North Cascades, an adoring audience. What the festival received from us in return was far and away the best set this loosely assembled 'allstar' group has ever performed. I've played Winthrop a number of times over the years-with Paul deLay, Linda Hornbuckle, DK Stewart's Quartet, J.C. Rico-but never had more fun than I did on this pass. And Polly O'Keary's after-festival jam session proved to be the kind of exhilarating, high-level musical frenzy one hopes for (but I at least rarely find) in such jam sessions. What a blast.... I've played festivals all over the world, and can honestly say that it doesn't get any better than the experience Northwest Pianorama had this year at Winthrop. This is the sort of experience we all live for in this business. Thanks so much for having us.
13Aug08 - Peter Dammann

Curtis Salgado
I have played many blues festivals all over the United States and being at Winthrop was one of the best times I have had in years.  All the people involved were so nice. The sound system was top notch. The stage was huge and the crew incredibly attentive.  And the crowd really responded to us! They really got what we were trying to do. Winthrop has everything an artist would want. After we were done playing, we really felt like we were treated like royalty.  Thank you Winthrop.

Polly O’Keary
On behalf of myself and the Rhythm Method I would like to thank Jimmie Smith and the Winthrop Music Association for having us back again this year to host the Beer Garden Jam!  We would like to thank Security for the great job they did in the beer garden tent.  Thank you to Gary Anderson for working out the glitches with the sound and making everyone sound so good!  Thank you to Erika for treating us so nicely and with such professionalism it hurt.  This festival is the highlight of our year every year.  Every year the band and I have wondered how it could get better from the year before.  Well it happened again!!  This year was amazing to watch some of our friends like “The Red Hotz”, Lady A and the Baby Blues Funk band and Sammy Eubanks take the main stage.  Incredible performances that make this band want to get back to rehearsing! Thank you to all the performers who generously brought their music to the jam stage, you all were tremendous. I’ll never forget DK Stewart, Kenny Blues Boss Wayne, and the boys from Northwest Pianorama on stage back there owning it. Too Slim, you were the man once again! So was your son and your drummer. Gary Harris from Curtis Salgado’s band, thank you fro bringing your horn! . Thanks to Ron Bock, Rojer Arnold and Paul Elliott, the boys from Joshua tree, for sitting in with us every night, and local greats Lady A, Suze Sims, Teri Anne Wilson, Sammy Eubanks, Mike Wright, T-Rad once again, (missed your son!) and the incredible Randy Norris who always turns in a blistering set! Airplane Dave, and all the harmonica players, including Slim Jimmy D, Al Owen, Wes Edwards and Bill Davis. You guys were amazing! Thanks for great memories:

Loved the festival, as always.  I missed it last year and this year it seemed to run very smoothly.  Really liked the program with all the previous years line-ups.  Great music, great food, great vendors!  Erika and the board, thanks for all you do to put on such a great event.  See ya next year!

WOW! On behalf of myself and the band, I would like to say THANK YOU for having us at The Winthrop Blues Festival for 2008. Tim "Too Slim" Langford
On behalf of Too Slim and the Taildraggers I would like to congratulate and thank the WMA, all the fans, and volunteers for another successful Winthrop R&B Festival. We feel so lucky to be a part of this event year after year. The festival organization runs like a well oiled machine and everybody made us feel so good. The Winthrop R&B Festival is always the highlight  of the summer festival season for us. It's always great to reconnect with our friends and fans that we don't get to see enough of due to the rigors of constant touring. It always feels like a family reunion! We hope all of you who are associated with the festival will continue to allow us to be a part of this wonderful musical family. Till next year my friends.... we'll see you on the road!

Lady A
On behalf of Lady "A" & the Baby Blues Funk Band we want to thank the Winthrop Music Association, sponsors, volunteers and fans for a wonderful weekend of Music!  What an experience!  The band was treated 1st CLASS and we lived, breathed, felt every bit welcomed and loved for what we do as musicians.... The musical line-up was wonderful and we were Blessed to be a part of an exciting conglomeration of talent and pure musical energy which made up this fantastic festival.  The new audiences that showed us love, the new friendships, rekindling the old ones and love of the music itself renergized this band and YOU ALL made us feel like old friends. A personal thank you for the lovely flowers for my birthday ( what a nice surprise) and added bonus to what was already a beautiful time in my life. Thank you again for including Lady "A" & the Baby Blues funk Band and we hope you invite us back! Miss Erika... YOU ARE THE BOMB GIRL... KEEP DOIN' YOUR THANG! CAUSE YOU DO IT WELL!

On behalf of Northwest Pianorama, I want to say that we had an absolute ball at the 2008 Winthrop Rhythm & Blues Festival! This was the first time I've been booked at the festival (the others had all been there before), and all I can say is, everything I heard about it was TRUE! Great fans, great hospitality, great sound, great stage crew, fabulous food, incredible setting. Not to mention some of the coolest people on earth. My bandmates who sat in at the jam session really enjoyed themselves. Thanks for having us, and hopefully we'll see you all again before too long.

Annie
Hi Winthrop! I'm Annie, one of the Cascade Blues Association (CBA) Board of Directors. Okay, I'm so very pumped up about touring my first ever Winthrop Blues Fest. I've heard GREAT things about your festival from past Portland OR attendees! I keep hearing how Winthrop experiences warmer weather during the festival... Well Winthrop, get ready because things are gonna REALLY get H.O.T. because some of our own musicians are headed your way-namely the NW Pianorama featuring or very own Paul deLay Rhythm Section - YowZa...HOT, HOT, HOT! And I'm not talkin' the weather either. Much love, C U all soon....

I had a great time at the festival. Even tho I had a bad cold and spent a lot of time sleeping in the RV. I would wake up from my cat naps to the blues and fall asleep to the blues. What could be better than that? I've always thought the Blues was about healing. I went home cured. Looking to be cured again at this years fest!

Hi, This weekend was our first time!  We had a great time.  All the volunteers were excellent - knowledgeable anytime I had a question.  The fellow campers were lots of fun.  We especially enjoyed Ryan Harder (this morning). I was worried about the bathroom situation but the "number 1 in the number 2" people were great.  We're coming back next year with more friends. Thanks for the party.

And Tommy Castro Band (my favorite kicked some booty. But I got to say Jason Ricci + band was my personnel favorite. He made sounds from his harp that I never heard before.
GREAT FESTIVAL AND SEE YOU NEXT YEAR.
One negitive note: The friday night street dance, with there gustopo cops busting people for open container, was B.S. They should of gave warnings not tickets. Bush legue cops. Get A Life
